This September, the Heatcraft team were honoured to have taken part in Vado Rally’16 to help raise money for the Rainy Day Trust – a charity supporting people who have worked in the home improvement and enhancement industries such as manufacture, wholesale, DIY, housewares and garden centres.
Who are the Rainy Day trust?
This is a charity struck a cord with the Heatcraft team because of the many ways that it help people who have worked or currently work in the same sector. They offer training, legal help and financial support. The Rainy Day trust have been fund-raising since 1843 and since 2003 has given away more than 1.1 million.
Team Piston Shattered
As Team Heatcraft Piston Shattered, we rose to the challenge to reach the prestigious Monte Carlo within 3 days (15th-18th Sept); speeding along Europe’s greatest roads with our car worth under £300, a 2002 Jaguar S-type. And what a beast of a car it is, with it’s heritage good looks and traditionally a British design, we think it was a steal for £300!
The crew
We were encouraged to spend more effort on dressing our carriage and crew, which we had a lot of fun in doing so as you can see from our dashcam below!
Our Opponents
These teams included The Rum Raiders, The Monk Mobile, Team24 and Phoenix2016. Between us, four prizes were up for grabs: ‘Most Money Raised’, ‘Best Fancy Dress’. We were elated to take home the award for ‘Best Team Spirit’!
Over the three days, we travelled 1278km in total. Here’s the breakdown of stats taken from the journey:
16th Sept 09:00(GMT +1hrs) 3243m Ascent 499m Elevation (Max) 14% Grade
17th Sept 09:00 7900m 2352m 202%
18th Sept 09:00 8339m 520m 77%
The route took us through eight European countries, as well as completing a number of challenges on the way before we reached our destination of Monte Carlo. It was fantastic journey and we are grateful to have taken part and the best bit – we raised £3,600 for the Rainy Day Trust!
We’d like to say a massive THANK YOU to all costumers, colleagues, and suppliers who donated.
